Everything you need to know before buying a bed

Beds are sometimes sold separately to mattresses. If you are replacing the bed and headboard and not the mattress, this buyer’s guide is essential for you.

Firstly, make sure the bed and mattress fit correctly, or this will affect your sleep quality for the worse.

If you are replacing your mattress and you’ve had a slatted bed or a divan for 10 years or more, you might want to consider replacing the bed too with the mattress as they don’t usually last longer than this. We recommend that to save time and money by replacing them together.

Types of beds

There are a few different types of bed frames, read below to decide which one is perfect for your needs.

Slats and frames

Simple framed beds are usually the cheaper option. You also have the added advantage of having an accessible storage area underneath for suitcases or for bedding. You can have wooden beds or more stylish upholstered beds.

Divans are an excellent storage solution and choose from a huge range of upholstery options.

Divan

Divans are the standard bed choice because of their comfort, function and aesthetic. These beds are made of wood, but the beauty of them is that you can choose from a huge array of upholstery fabric and colours to compliment the style and colour of your bedroom.

Divans are also known for their smart storage. Instead of having ‘under-the-bed’ storage space you have stylish draws to store linen, shoes and more.

Ottoman beds offer an alternative storage solution.

Ottomans are an alternative storage method. Lift the entire mattress up that is resting on a lid to reveal a large area of storage protected from dust.
