We all know how hard it is to pick a paint colour. You want to get it right first time, especially when you are going to see it every day. Follow our top tips to make sure you get the perfect colour.
There are lots of places to start your search for the perfect paint colour. Some of our favourites are Pinterest, Interior Design Magazines and Specific Colour Guides such as the Dulux Colour Guide. This is a great way of finding rooms you aspire to have or colours you really cannot stand. At this point it is important to stay realistic and look at images of similar rooms to yours. Liking a colour in a large open plan kitchen-diner is very different to seeing it in your small back bedroom.
At this point you should aim to narrow down your colour choices to 3-5 paint colours. This is a great number because it is not too many, but it provides you extra choices if your favourite turns out to look different in your lighting. If you cannot find any colours in the paint guides which take your fancy, consider finding items in the colour you like and asking for the paint to be matched. For the colour scanner to work accurately the scannable item should be at least 1” by 1” and not on a digital device.
Try out the paint colour samples on your wall. It is the only way to get a true reflection of the colour. The same paint colour will look different in every room depending on the dimensions and shape of your room and the amount of light the room gets from natural daylight or artificial lighting. Keep the samples up for 24 hours so you can view the room with the different lights of dawn, noon and dusk.
If there is more than one of you living at home, take a vote. If one person is unhappy with the colour it may mean you end up having to redecorate again sooner than anticipated.
Before you grab a tin of paint from the shelves, have a chat with the experts. Make sure you have the correct type and finish of paint for your project. They can also advise on any prep work you may need to do before painting the wall.
